Behind every journey and every coach lie stories of exceptional people. Today we’d like to introduce you to Iker Puertas, one of our most versatile employees, who proves that it’s never too late to change the course of your working life and fulfil a dream.

In 2023, he decided to change direction and get behind the wheel of a coach, a sector that had always caught his eye. Today, just over three years later, he has become a key member of the Aizpurua Autobusak team.

A dynamic day-to-day: driving, maintenance and… social media!

What makes Iker Puertas’s day-to-day work special is his versatility. His role in the company adapts perfectly to the rhythm of the seasons:

• In the high season, his top priority is the road, providing the best service to our passengers.
• In the low season, he is in charge of thoroughly cleaning the buses and maintaining the garage, ensuring the fleet is always spotless and ready to go.
• In his spare time, he indulges in one of his hobbies and gives us a hand with content for the Instagram account.

“What I like most is driving the big buses. But the key in this job is not to get too complacent; as these are heavy-duty vehicles, any lapse in concentration can be costly,” he tells us with the sense of responsibility that characterises him.

Confessions on the road: music, scenery and a little anecdote

• His essentials in the cab: he never leaves home without his sunglasses and, of course, he always drives with some good music playing in the background.
• Sea or mountains? “I prefer the coast; the sea gives me a real sense of calm, although the countryside has some very beautiful scenery too.” In fact, his top recommendation for anyone travelling with us is a route through the beautiful coastal villages of our country.
• As with any job, there are always moments to remember. Iker Puertas confesses a minor mix-up: “We were at a school where five buses had gathered. I got confused when putting up the sign with the route number and put up the one belonging to a colleague who was new. The man had learnt his route by heart… He had to do my shift and I had to do his. Despite the initial awkwardness for my colleague, in the end everything turned out fine and it became just an anecdote.”

On October 1st, we held the Aizpurua Autobusak in movement event at the Araeta restaurant in Zubieta to present the five Irizar i6 Efficient vehicles. Here you have all the photos of the event.

We also presented a unique work of art by Navarrese artist Mike Belindo (David López Amézqueta), painted on one of the vehicles. This moving work of art, titled The heart that moves you, is a reflection of the stories, dreams, and emotions experienced on each journey, which we carefully preserve.
